Prior to the late 1930’s, children from Moygashel and the surrounding area attended Moygashel Public Elementary School which was situated on the Syerla Road. Mr. John Knox was Headmaster of this school. In the late 1930s it amalgamated with Stangmore Primary School. The new school was named Howard Primary School. This was after Colonel Howard who was Chairman of the Regional Education Committee. Several senior citizens from the local area remember an old plantation on the site of the present school.
Mr. Isaac Martin, principal of Stangmore, was the first headmaster of the amalgamated schools. Several other headmasters followed over the next 60 years including Mr. R. Sloan, Mr. W. Frizelle, Mr. G. Graham, Mr. R. Hunter and Mrs. V. Campbell. The present Principal is Mrs. L. Allen
